Choose project location and inference mode
On this page
Choose where the project lives separately from who performs AI work. These settings answer different questions.

| Project target | What it means |
|---|---|
local | Project files and the local app run from your machine’s workspace. |
cloud | OwlMeans hosts the project and preview. |
| Inference mode | What it means |
|---|---|
cloud | OwlMeans performs the pipeline’s AI work against the applicable allowances and credits. |
local | The connected coding agent performs delegated AI work. Its provider limits and charges may apply. |
Select a setup
- Open the correct workspace if choosing a local target.
- Review Settings → MCP settings in OwlMeans for your inference preference.
- Use explicit CLI options when the connection needs a fixed mode.
- Restart the MCP client after changing its configuration or account preference.
- Call
session_statusand verify the resulting setup before starting work.
# Hosted project with platform inference
npx -y @owlmeans/viable-mcp@^0.1.18-rc.50 --target cloud --llm cloud
# Local project with delegated inference
npx -y @owlmeans/viable-mcp@^0.1.18-rc.50 --target local --llm local --harness codex
Delegation requires a connected coding agent that can handle tasks and return their results. It does not mean the AI automatically runs on your own hardware. The browser marks this capability Beta and warns that agent limits, tokens and speed can vary.
Explicit flags or environment settings override the corresponding preference. Without an explicit inference override, the account connector preference is used with cloud inference as the fallback. The hosted HTTP endpoint uses cloud projects and cloud inference.
