Claude Code CLI

On this page

Connect OwlMeans to Claude Code from the terminal. Install Node.js 22 or newer and the standalone Claude Code CLI first.

OwlMeans MCP settings: 1, inference preference; 2, client setup tabs.
OwlMeans MCP settings: 1, inference preference; 2, client setup tabs.
  1. Open the project directory in a terminal.
  2. Register a project-scoped stdio server:
claude mcp add --transport stdio --scope project owlmeans -- npx -y @owlmeans/viable-mcp@^0.1.18-rc.50 --harness claude-code
  1. Start a new Claude Code conversation.
  2. Open /mcp to inspect the connection.

Project scope writes a shared project MCP definition. Use user scope when you deliberately want the connection available across projects. Review the official Claude Code MCP guide for scope and authentication options.

The command registers the server; OwlMeans browser authorization is still required on first use.

Check the connection

  1. Complete OwlMeans browser sign-in when requested.
  2. Ask the agent to call describe_platform and session_status.
  3. Verify the intended project, workspace and inference mode.
  4. Ask it to inspect or install the project harness.
  5. Start a small generation or story workflow.

The examples use a local target. Add --target, cloud as separate arguments for a hosted project. Add --llm, local for delegated inference only when the connected coding agent will handle tasks. Mode selection explains the effects and costs.

Keep access tokens out of committed configuration. Restart the client after changing the server settings. If a tool is absent, inspect the connected server’s tool list and troubleshoot.
