Configure your app and its secrets
On this page
Set values an application needs without hardcoding them into its source. Preview and production can have different settings.
- Open the project’s controls and configuration settings.
- Select the intended scope: preview or production.
- Read each declared variable and its purpose. Recollect configuration if a newly developed feature has introduced variables.
- Set public values in frontend configuration and private service credentials in backend configuration.
- Apply the settings and wait for the app to refresh.
- Try the feature in the selected scope and confirm the credential is not visible in the browser.
A secret is a value that grants access to another service. A frontend value can be sent to visitors’ browsers; it is not a safe place for private API keys.
For Task Grove, a public support URL can be a frontend value. A private credential for an external notification service belongs in backend configuration when that integration is developed.
Do not paste secrets into story descriptions, screenshots or shared chat. Replace an exposed credential at its provider, then update the application settings. MCP configuration tools let an authorized agent perform the same supported changes.
