Databases and caching

On this page

Durable records and fast shared state serve different needs. Hosted generated applications have PostgreSQL and Valkey available as part of their foundation.

Libraries by purpose

Library or standardPurposePublic OwlMeans package
PostgreSQL and node-postgres (pg)Store application records and connect the app to relational data.@owlmeans/postgres
Valkey and ioredisSupport compatible shared in-memory storage and queue-related services.@owlmeans/redis
IndexedDB and idb-keyvalSupport browser-local persistence through the Common web database service.@owlmeans/web-db

These are public ecosystem dependencies and standards. The exact dependency set of an app depends on its generated project and developed features; not every library listed here is required by every application.

Use this in a project

  1. Describe the behavior you need in the specification or story.
  2. Ask the agent to use the project’s existing OwlMeans Common conventions.
  3. Review the related public package documentation when you want to understand a dependency.
  4. Try the behavior in the preview and review its access rules.

Name the contact fields and which customer organization owns each record. Create a synthetic contact, reload the app and confirm it remains available only to authorized users.

PostgreSQL keeps records durably. Valkey holds fast shared state. A cache is a shortcut for data that can be obtained again; it should not be your only copy of important customer records.

Read OwlMeans Tech Concept for the application architecture and continue with another agent for the harness workflow.
